Carey Price said he is hopeful he will be able to play again with the Montreal Canadiens sooner rather than later.

"Yeah, it's definitely an objective for me this season," Price said Sunday. "You know, it's always been my goal, ever since I got back here. Obviously, I've had a couple of setbacks that weren't foreseen. It's been a frustrating process, no doubt, but at the end of the day, I've got to take care of it. And, you know, moving forward, I'm starting to skate again, so hopefully I'll keep on progressing and be able to get back into uniform pretty soon."

Jeremy Colliton has been elevated to head coach of Canada's men's hockey team for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing after Claude Julien was sidelined by an injury.

Hockey Canada said Julien slipped on ice and fractured his ribs during training camp in Switzerland, and medical staff determined he won't be able to fly to China for the Games.

Colliton, who was previously an assistant coach for the team, will take over head-coaching duties.

Evander Kane knows he will not be universally loved by fans of the Oilers.

Edmonton is the fourth franchise for the 30-year-old whose contract was dumped by the Sharks. There will be questions about his past, from suspensions due to violations of COVID-19 protocols, a bankruptcy and a gambling addiction. Allegations of abuse lodged by his ex-wife were not proven in court.

"I want to clear up a lot of the misinformation, a lot of the storylines painting me in a certain light that are completely untrue, inaccurate and false," Kane said. "I would encourage [fans] to be open-minded, to allow me to do what I do best and get to know me on the ice, off the ice, around the rink, in the community, and see what I bring to the table.

The Chicago Blackhawks are taking an unusual approach to their search for their next general manager and plan to make a decision before the NHL trade deadline in March.

Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz, the son of team owner Rocky Wirtz, said Wednesday the interview process will include candidates "both inside and outside of hockey."

The NHL on Wednesday revealed new dates for 98 games postponed for coronavirus-related reasons, keeping the end of the regular season on schedule for April 29.

The changes include moving 23 other games around and 95 games filling the Feb. 7-22 gap that previously was scheduled for the Olympic break. Finishing the regular season before the end of April keeps the league on track to begin the playoffs in early May and award the Stanley Cup before July 1.

Claude Julien was named coach of Canada's men's hockey team for the Beijing Olympics on Friday, and Shane Doan was named general manager.

Doan and Julien replace St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong and Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper, who vacated their positions on the national team when the NHL pulled out of an agreement to send its players to the Olympics last month.

The NHL has revealed its rosters for the 2022 All-Star Game in Las Vegas, with some significant names missing from the teams.

The All-Star Game again will feature four divisional teams -- Metropolitan, Atlantic, Central and Pacific -- playing in a 3-on-3 tournament. 

The All-Star Game will be Feb. 5 (3 p.m. ET on ABC and simulcast on ESPN+), with the skills competition taking place the day before on Feb. 4 (7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN) from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Jack Eichel said he was like a kid on Christmas morning during his first skate with the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

"It's a bit of an emotional moment for me. Another step in the process," he said after practice. "I know it's only an optional morning skate. But after everything that I've been through, things are getting back to normal."

Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland confirmed that he has spoken with the agent for Evander Kane, the controversial free-agent winger whose contract was terminated by the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.

Holland said he has had conversations about Kane with agent Dan Milstein, who was also the agent for former Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk when Holland was GM in Detroit.

"As the manager, it's my responsibility to investigate every situation," Holland said.

Former Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin joined the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday as a senior adviser.

Bergevin was fired by Montreal on Nov. 28, ending a 10-year run with the Canadiens.

"I've enjoyed my time away, but I'm excited to join the L.A. Kings and become an active part of helping the team reach its objectives," Bergevin said in a statement.
